First Presbyterian Book Club has been reading Melting Point by Rachel Cockrell, and tonight, 11/18/25, met for a lively discussion and refreshments
A group of Zionists believed Palestine might not be a feasible option at the moment and considered establishing a temporary Jewish refuge elsewhere. Their search extended worldwide, eventually leading them to choose Galveston, Texas. They partnered with wealthy Jews from New York to develop a plan to bring 2 million Russian Jews to Texas, from where they could spread throughout the American heartland. In the early 1900s, New York was the largest Jewish center globally. These American Jews wondered, “Can’t we bring our Jewish brethren to America, but settle them in the American hinterland?” Thus, Galveston became a launching point for other parts of the U.S. Many Jews in the central states are there because of the Galveston Plan.

Arts and Crafts met Saturday, Nov 15, to get everything ready for the Dickens Tea. Oh yes, cookies were available.
