If you're not familiar with Galveston during this season you may question the costumes. There is an area in Galveston heading the harbor known as The Strand. The Strand is a Historic District characterized by Victorian-era buildings that now serve as restaurants, antique shops, and curio stores. This area is a popular tourist destination for the island city.
The Galveston Dickens Festival in December transforms the historic Strand District into a Victorian-era street celebration, providing an immersive experience of 19th-century London. There is an entrance fee, but it is reduced if you wear Victorian costume.
The festival features costumed characters, entertainment on multiple stages, wandering musicians, and performers. It also includes holiday markets and artisan vendors.
First Presbyterian Church, located very close to the Strand District, offers a Victorian Tea experience for which many attendees come dressed in costume.
Following the High Tea is a Messiah Recital featuring a harpsicord.
