Sundays

What should I expect?

At First Presbyterian, expect to be loved and embraced by both the spirit and the word, but also by the kindness of our congregation. We worship in what is called a blended style. On Sunday mornings our choir sings throughout the year and the organ and piano lead our hymn singing. We also are blessed to have many exceptional musicians and on some Sundays our Ensemble leads aspects of worship and the hymns. We stand and sit as we are able to, we recite the lords prayer, and once a month we take communion, which is open to all baptized Christians. Whether you like to hear music lead by guitar and a nice acoustic approach, or you love the grand tradition of the organ and choir – you will find a worship that blends both traditions here at First Presbyterian.

What should I wear?

On Sunday morning you will see worshipers in three piece suits, robes, and shorts with a Hawaiian t-shirt. There really is no right or wrong thing to wear to worship. We believe in a come as you are approach – come in a three piece suit if you wish, or if you’re still in your working clothes – that’s okay, we welcome you here! Some times of the year, you may even see some of our members in pajamas or kilts as we have special services. What matters is not what you wear or how you dress, simply that you come with an open mind and heart!

Where can I park?

There are three parking lots available on Sunday mornings. There is a lot on 19th St., a lot on Church St., and a lot on 20th St. The lots on Church and 20th both have entrances on 20th street in the back of the church. Please note that our accessibility ramp and most of our accessible parking spaces are located at the Church St. entrance and parking lot by the Children’s playground. Ushers will be on hand if you need assistance. These doors do lock at the beginning of the service for everyone’s safety, and all entrances at that point must be made through the main doors on 19th St. If the gates are closed when you arrive, the code for the handles is 1903. These are in place to help keep children in throughout the week – not to keep you out!

Are you open and affirming?

First Presbyterian Church of Galveston is committed to being an open and affirming church for all of God’s children, regardless of their race, ethnicity, sex, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, religion or gender expression. All are welcome in all aspects of our church life, including baptism, communion, marriage, and ordination.

Are services archived?

Yes! All services are archived onsite, as well as on our Facebook page. We are updating our YouTube listing as we are able! If there is a specific service you are looking for, please contact our church office.
