Mulukuku Nicaragua Medical Mission Trip 2008
Ben working in the Pharmacy
First Presbyterian has a strong
mission emphasis and a long-standing medical ministry in Nicaragua. Every
summer, members travel to Nicaragua to provide medical care to the people of Mulukuku and to those in surrounding areas through satellite clinics.
Older youth from the church often participate.

Presbyterian Youth Mission Trip to Victoria, Texas

Some
of the youth at our church had a unique opportunity to participate in the
first annual “Impact Texas” youth mission event! On Thursday, June 26,
four of the youth, along with their “fearless leader” Heather, made the
3-hour trek to Victoria, Texas. Once there, they joined up with youth
from 6 other Presbyterian churches around the state. First Presbyterian
Church in Victoria was kind enough to offer their educational building for
sleeping quarters, as well as make lunch for the youth before they left on
Sunday. While in Victoria, the youth spent their days serving those in
the community by painting, doing yard work, and helping to assemble new
playground equipment at their host church. Some wonderful work was
accomplished and some great friends were made! It was a VERY successful
trip and the youth are looking forward to going again next year! Here are
a few pictures from the trip. To get more information and to see a slide
show including more pictures, you can go to:

Hello all!
For those of you who participated in the Youth Sunday services, just wanted
to thank you again and tell you what a great job you did!
Wanted to also tell you about a great mission opportunity for us to
participate in this summer. It's called "IMPACT" (Igniting & Motivating a
Presbytery Army of Christian Teens) and here is a link to the website.
Please check it out!

This is a brand new program (in the Presbytery of New Covenant) -- this will
be the first year for it. The first mission project will be held in
Victoria, the last weekend in June. What will happen is that we will drive
to Victoria Thursday afternoon on June 26. We'll stay in a local church
there. On Friday and Sat during the day we will do housepainting and
yardwork for local residents, who, due to old age and/or disabilities, can't
do it themselves.
In the evenings, we'll get
ourselves cleaned up and have some activities at the church (games, etc).
On Sunday morning, we'll attend church service at First Presbyterian in
Victoria, where we've been staying, and share with the congregation all the
great stuff we accomplished while we were there. Then, we'll head home.
Like I said, it's a brand new program, but the man who is putting it
together (Timothy Coman of Faith Presbyterian) is patterning it after a
program that's been in place in the Methodist church for a while now called
UMARMY. Here is a link to a short video on YouTube from UMARMY (Houston
2007 project). It's a different program, but similar to what we hope IMPACT
will be like and will give you a little bit of an idea of what to expect:

Youth Mission Initiative LIVE (ymiLIVE)
ymiLIVE (Youth Mission Initiative LIVE), a web-based project, launched
on March 1, 2008. This online community will include an opportunity for
Presbyterian youth groups to take part in a video challenge to share their
interpretation of Micah 6:8 “…to do justice, love kindness and to walk
humbly with your God.” The videos will be posted on the site www.ymilive.org creating a community for young Presbyterians, their
parents and all those who support the youth of the Church.
The site and video challenge will
culminate at the General Assembly next June. From among the 15 videos
with the most online votes between March 1 and June 1, three will be
selected by the Youth Advisory Delegates. The youth groups that produced
the three winning videos will each receive a $25,000 endowment fund to
benefit their youth ministry.
Youth group leaders can now register their youth group to participate in
the online community. Once you have registered your group, you can begin
inviting your youth members to join. We’ve included features to help groups get started with their videos.
