Outreach Grant Fund Ministry

As an act of stewardship, the
First Presbyterian Church has created an Outreach Fund using interest earned
from Trust Funds.
The grants which may be given to
qualified applicants are for:
-
Support for long-term projects that
strive to respond to basic life needs of those who reside in Galveston County
-
Projects that address gaps in social
services not provided by other Galveston County agencies.
The Outreach Fund
awards between
$35,000 and $50,000 annually, for 6 to 15 small grants, usually not exceeding
$5,000. each.
The Outreach Fund Ministry, a sub-committee of the Mission
Ministry of First Presbyterian Church, Galveston, receives, reviews and
makes recommendations on qualified proposals. Members of our church are involved in
many community organizations; significant preference will be given to
allocations where members of our church also donate their personal time, effort, and resources.

2010 Outreach Fund
Ministry Grants:
Acting on the deliberations of the Mission Outreach Fund Board, the
Missions Ministry on August 1, 2010, recommended for Session approval the
awarding of grant funds to the following applicants: Bolivar Peninsula
Community Outreach to start-up
a thrift shop to help sustain the initiatives; East End Preschool to complete
playground with tricycle path; Gulf Coast Big
Brothers-Big Sisters for their grandparents raising grandchildren program;
Gleanings from the Harvest for expansion
of warehouse; National Alliance on
Mental Illness (NAMI) for start-up
of thrift shop for sustaining, and supported client employment; Pregnancy and
Parenting Support Center for purchase
of educational materials for expectant and new parents;
R House, Inc. for upgrade of
kitchen appliances; St. Augustine
Episcopal Church of Galveston for construction of community garden, in stages as they have the funding;
St. Vincent’s House for food
pantry augmentation and Thanksgiving dinner; Salvation Army for purchase
of 20 single beds; Seafarers Center of Galveston for completion of cost of exterior painting;
and William Temple
Foundation for expansion and upgrade of kitchen.
2009 Outreach Fund Grants:
East End Preschool & Kindergarten
(replace equipment lost in Hurricane Ike); Gulf Coast Big Brothers & Big Sisters
("Mentoring Children of Prisoners" program); NAMI Gulf Coast (support campaign
for new multi-service center); Pregnancy & Parenting Support Center (replace 125
infant car seats damaged in Ike); R House (replace transitional beds lost in
Ike); Salvation Army (replace equipment lost in Ike); Seafarers' Center of
Galveston (pressure wash, prime & paint building); St. Vincent's House (for food
for Food Pantry & Annual Thanksgiving Feast.)
