Dear All,

With much sadness I am writing to tell you that Jack Bennett, our Pastor Emeritus, died on Thursday morning in New Braunfels.  Jack was a graduate of Austin Seminary and served Presbyterian churches in Homer (Louisiana), Beaumont,  Galveston and Corpus Christi before his retirement.  He then continued to serve God as an interim minister for congregations in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas.

Jack was the minister of this church from January 1969 through August 1985, a span of nearly 17 years.  He served this congregation with an extraordinary grace, passion and effectiveness.  Throughout his tenure, this congregation was known for an effective ministry to families with young children and to the UTMB community, and for a remarkable commitment to global missions.  Under Jack’s leadership this congregation was also known to be an extraordinary training ground for college students, young adults and seminary interns; many of whom have since gone on to serve God as missionaries and ordained ministers.  I have been privileged to know Jack as a mentor, trusted colleague and friend.  I share in the sadness of his passing.

The Bennett family has asked that I relay the following information:

Rev. Jack K. Bennett died this past Thursday, January 21.  Viewing and family visitation will be from 6:00-9:00 p.m. on Friday, January 29th, at Seaside Memorial Park and Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas.  The Memorial Service will be held at First Presbyterian Church, Corpus Christi at 11:30 on Saturday, January 30th .

In lieu of flowers, family asks that contributions be made in Jack’s memory to the Haiti Education Foundation, 1801 W. Block, El Dorado, Arkansas  71730  or to the Jack and Liz Bennett Scholarship Fund at Austin Presbyterian Seminary, 100 E. 27th Street,  Austin, TX  78705.

Notes to the family may be sent to Gloria Morse, 1850 Valley Drive, Canyon Lake, Texas  78130.

I ask that you continue to pray for Jack’s family through this season of their lives.

All the best,

David

The Reverend David H. Green
